                    How to use the template

Pick your canvas: the Business Model Canvas describes a business that already runs or one you are about to launch; the Lean Canvas is built to test a new idea, so it swaps partners, activities and resources for problem, solution and metrics.

Fill in the blocks in numbered order, which is the recommended one: customers and value proposition first, costs last. Each block has a guiding question and an example; write short ideas, one per note, as if they were sticky notes.

If you do not know where to start, load one of the examples and change it. When you are done, download the PNG to share it or the PDF to print it. If you download the empty canvas, you get a template to fill in by hand.

                    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Business Model Canvas and the Lean Canvas?

Both have 9 blocks and share customers, channels, revenue and costs. The Business Model Canvas looks at operations (key partners, activities and resources); the Lean Canvas, made for startups, replaces them with problem, solution, key metrics and unfair advantage, so you can test an idea before building it.

In what order should I fill in the blocks?

Start with the customer and what you offer them, and leave costs for last. Business Model Canvas: customer segments, value proposition, channels, relationships, revenue, resources, activities, partners and costs. Lean Canvas: problem, customer segments, unique value proposition, solution, channels, revenue, costs, metrics and unfair advantage.

Can I print the blank template?

Yes. With the canvas empty, download the PDF or the PNG: each block shows its guiding question in grey so you can fill it in by hand or in a workshop with sticky notes.

Where is my Canvas saved? Can anyone else see it?

Only in your browser, on this device. What you type is not sent to any server or added to the page address. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, it is gone: download the PNG or PDF to keep a copy.

How many ideas should I put in each block?

Two to five is usually enough. If a block fills up with notes, you are probably mixing segments or details that belong somewhere else. The tool allows up to 8 notes of 140 characters per block to force you to be concise.
